Beautiful. I've been recently trying to see more films from this specific year. This list will be invaluable to me.
I highly recommend Kalatozov's Salt for Svanetia, a documentary style film that swings into full blown Communist propaganda with 10 minutes left. It's simply amazing, and from what I've seen of his, it's only second to the great The Cranes Are Flying.
Thank you, Chris, I have added SALT FOR SVANETIA!
Jaime - I'd recommend adding Duvivier's Au bonheur des dames for this year. There's some ambitious/pretty great visual stuff in it. Glenn Kenny's take on the DVD is here: http://mubi.com/notebook/posts/842
